Another itch that needed scratching: we had done a few camping trips with rented or borrowed gear, and somehow the Mission Camping Trailer caught my eye.
South African manufactured, with an eye on the domestic and Australian outdoor lifestyle markets. Some wrangling with contacts to find somebody with the ability to collect a trailer in South Africa and deliver it to Botswana.

It is basically a suitcase or trunk on off-road wheels with an electric fridge, built-in kitchen with gas stove, and a water tank. The electrics are solar powered and I have just upgraded to a lithium-iron (LiFePo) battery and a WRND dual-battery charge controller that can take power from the towing vehicle or solar panels. There is also a commando-plug socket for use where mains power is available.
So far we have used it on local trips around Francistown, a longer trip through Makgadikgadi and Nxai Pans, and into the southern reaches of the Kalahari sandveld.
Our tents live in the bottom of the trailer, and pull-out slider platform sized for four standard size “ammo crates” make for quick loading.
